Goats Will Be Munching at Horizon View in LFP

A fun day will unfold and Billy and Nanny are sent onto the hillsides of Horizon View area to tackle the invasive weeds. 

The Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation has made the event into a fun day for all with Petting Zoo, Temp Tattoos, Coupons, Coloring Books and kid activities. There is also a Secret Garden Tour and other fun this weekend.


What a great way to tackle this huge invasive challenge. Way to go  LFPSF!

Goat Days are this weekend!   Please join us for a day of family fun, free food and games for LFP's 50th Anniversary June 18th - 22nd   On June 18th, Horizon View Park will be transformed into a huge carnival site with 250 goats devouring the invasive blackberries! Goat Days activities will include:   A petting zoo for children Kids tattoos Things to color Free coffee Free kids pizza coupons The city is providing:   Games for children Free hot dogs, ice cream and drinks   Don't miss the   Secret Garden Tour   and other activities at the Towne Center during this weekend.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES  Planting Work Party at Whisper Creek Saturday, October 9th, 9 AM to 12 noon Come help put plants in the ground at Whisper Creek!  Please join us in restoring this reclaimed natural area along a quiet creek in the Cedarbrook neighborhood. LOCATION: The site is behind (north of) the playground of the closed Cedarbrook school.  Cedarbrook School is on Perkins Way across from 20th Ave NE. The site can also be accessed from Lago Place by going south on 20th Ave NE, or from 18th Ave NE by going east on NE  190th Street. There may be many small fry soccer games in progress in the playground, but best place to park is in the school parking lot. INFO: We'll need shovels (some will be provided) and a couple of wheel barrows.  Dress for the weather.  It may be muddy. Snacks will be provided.  Students, this is an opportunity to earn Community Service hours. Questions?  Call Mamie at  206-364-4410 LFP Tree Inventory Trees in Grace Cole Nature Park photo credit-Janet Way Mike Woodbury and volunteers are half-way through the tree inventory to create a baseline view of our total LFP tree canopy, but they still need help on the remaining 50 plots. The scientific creation of a baseline of our tree inventory is a step toward developing reasonable requirements for tree replacement and preservation.  It's a tool needed for preservation of our tree canopy.  This will help our streams, wetlands and habitats.  The survey is headed by a retired professional forest expert.    If you can volunteer at least 3 hours in October to help in this effort, please choose a specific time slot (or slots) at www.doodle.com/kccditsmnqzcig9x and let Mike know your contact information. Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation has been doing fantastic work for 2 
decades to restore Environmental Resources in their watersheds and beyond.

A good time to engage and get involved with a great group and worthwhile project.

Announcement Two Work Parties    @ Grace Cole Nature Park Saturday, June 19 and Saturday, June 26  Ivy Out Restoration 10-2  Dear Janet,  The spring rains haven't stopped yet, but it is getting warmer.  It is a great season to roll up your sleeves and join us for a few hours in the woods. We'll be pulling ivy and tackling blackberry brambles. On these two Saturdays in June we'll be joining forces with Friends of the Cedar River Watershed.  Please put June 19th and June 26th on your calendar and make plans to join us. Students are encouraged to participate.  All are  welcome. GLOVES AND BOOTS Please wear gloves and dress for the  weather.  Ace Hardware in Towne Center has donated  some gloves, but if you have your own, bring them. SNACKS Bring some water in a reusable bottle. There will be a snacks, courtesy of the Lake Forest Park  Garden Club.  LOCATION 30th Ave NE and NE 165th Street.  Go south on 28th  from NE 178th in Lake Forest Park and drive about  1/2 mile  until just before the road turns.  You'll see Grace Cole  Nature Park on your right.   COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR STUDENTS Students can earn Community Service hours.
