Forrest Sargent, Fircrest Resident New Photography Show

A Fircrest School resident, Forrest Sargent is celebrating the season with a new photography show at a Bellevue Gallery.

Forrest has Autism, but has made great progress while living at Fircrest and is able to express himself through his photography.

The show is titled "The Light Within". 

Forrest Sargent's Art Photography is on display at Stargazers. You can meet
this amazing soul on Sunday, December 18th from 12-2pm and stop in anytime
to see his transformational art. (Through Winter)

Forrest Sargent Featured Again in Group Show at Oasis Gallery in Wallingford

Forrest Sargent is a local photographer and also a resident of Fircrest School.

His work is now featured in a group show at the Oasis Gallery in Wallingford entitled
"Beneath The Surface". They are hosting an opening reception August 3rd, 6-9pm.

Maralyn Chase Standing Up for the Disabled

Senator Maralyn Chase is taking a stand for the RHC's like Fircrest. 

She has spent a lifetime standing up for the underdog and the voiceless. Nearly every week, on her Senate Homepage she records a video on topics of importance. 


This week she makes a passionate and factual case for protecting the RHC's (Residental Habitation Centers) like Fircrest School in Shoreline. There are five RHC's in Washington State. Because of the severe budget situation, two of them are being scheduled to close this year. But now, some of the budget cutters are even targeting Fircrest. DSHS is making arbitrary choices to cut the budget at the expense and safety of the most vulnerable citizens.


Sadly, as Chase shows, this will destroy a system of housing for the profoundly disabled and retarded people, who need that excellent care they receive at centers like Fircrest. And it will not actually save any money. It will end up costing MORE. And it will also deny residents and their families the choice to live in an RHC that is their right under Federal Law. 


The budget choices our legislators face are heartbreaking. But legislators must stand up for the most vulnerable citizens, especially those who cannot speak for themselves.

Fircrest and all the RHC's (Residential Habilitation Center) is again under attack from those who would like to close them. This week, Superintendent Sue Walker, of Shoreline School District went all the way to Olympia to attack Fircrest saying it was "bad for children and bad for our communities."

Fircrest Resident Forrest Sargent Takes Art World by Storm

Childhood’s End Gallery, 222 4th. Avenue West in Olympia, is featuring Forrest Sargent’s photography, “Northwest Perspectives,” through February 10. Sargent is a 19-year old nature photographer from Seattle who is autistic and uses his photography and a letter board to communicate. A reception for the artist will take take place January 22 from 2-4pm.

He is the featured artist at the Childhood End Gallery in Olympia. Up until a few years ago Forrest was unable to talk or communicate and had a very frustrating and difficult time because of autism. Now he resides at Fircrest, an RHC and gets the support he needs from professional staff as well as his family.
He is now able to communicate many ways. One of those ways is through Photography.

Forrest's story has received a lot of great coverage lately, including Seattle Art Blog (above), KOMO TV and TONITE will be featured on KING  5 News.
